If you look at Webster's dictionary "Baroque" derives from the Portuguese language "barroco" (others say it derives from the French language, the origins are not sure). In music, it is a style characterized by highly embellished melodies and fugal or contrapuntal forms. I love Baroque music (and most of these tricks have been developed while listening to this fascinating kind of music), and I feel that card magic is very similar to it. Musically, the Baroque period, was extremely productive, developing many of the forms of music that are still with us today. The opera, oratorio, cantata, aria, fugue, concerto, sonata, suite, variation, chorale, prelude, toccata, and rondeau were all forms of music either developed or perfected during this period. Card magic has the same productivity during a certain period of time, developing various "themes" still common today such as Ace Assemblies, Oil & Water, Sandwiches, Triumphs, Elevator Cards, Transpositions, Red and Black Separations and many more. Reason enough for the name of the book.
